Hi Warriors! It’s time to kick off the new year on the right foot!!!
So many people commit to huge New Year’s resolutions that are based on guilt and deprivation and are nearly impossible to achieve. They set themselves up for failure and disappointment. Typically people feel so discouraged, they give up within just a few weeks into the new year. It doesn’t need to be this way!
This year, make your New Year’s resolution ACHIEVABLE and ENJOYABLE. You’ll be so much healthier and happier!
Honestly, I don’t even make resolutions anymore (although I do commit to SMART goals -Specific, measureable, accountable, realistic and timely). Instead of making resolutions, which always seem so negative, I choose ONE WORD and set an intention for the year based on how I want to feel (we’ll talk more about this during my free Facebook Live Yoga on New Years Day at 10:30AM EST – Hope you can join me!)
In addition to New Years Day Yoga, you can kick off the New Year on the right foot with my January Jump Start – 5 Day Yoga & Superfood Challenge! It’s FREE (but you have the option to add on a 3 day Juice and prepared vegan soups via Zia’s for $125 – see link for details)… and YES 5 days can make a HUGE difference in setting the tone for the year. To me, juices, yoga and super foods are the MAGIC COMBO.
The sooner you join in, the better since I’ll be posting tips to help you prep for the 5 day challenge starting on January 1st. JOIN THE PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP HERE.
OK, so here are five SMART goals (or call them resolutions if you must) to help you be heathier in 2017:
#1. DRINK MORE WATER
Have you noticed how much better you feel when you drink more water? Water helps your body to run better and will even help you to lose weight. Water will help give you a beautiful, youthful glow too. Make sure that you don’t just chug it all at once. Grab a water bottle and keep it with you throughout the day. This will make it that much easier to achieve your goal, and it will be so beneficial for your entire body. Aim for 8 – 10 glasses of water a day. Add lemon to it for extra hydration. I also like to add a drop of essential oil to my water to encourage me to drink more (just make sure it therapeutic food grade oils – If you’re interested in Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils, you can check out my web site).
#2. CROWD OUT UNHEALTHY FOODS
Unhealthy foods that are filled with sugar and toxins do our bodies no good (I call them kryptonite). Instead of just eating because you have a sweet tooth craving or because something looks delicious, choose foods to nourish your body. If you eat foods that give you energy and help you to feel better, you’ll be on track for a healthier New Year.
So, start 2017 by eating more whole foods that nourish and benefit your body and less processed foods that deplete you. You’re going for progress, not perfection so occasional treats are totally fine!!! Just notice how you feel when you eat high-quality, nutrient-dense foods and opposed to how you feel when you eat processed foods. How do you want to feel? Eat more of the foods that make you feel good and less of the foods that make you feel bad. Easy. When you focus on eating MORE of the high quality foods, there is less room for the junk food. “Crowding out” unhealthy foods is a simple yet very effective technique.
#3. MOVE MORE (10 MINUTES A DAY)
Most people think of a New Year’s resolution as heading to the gym every morning. They crush themselves with exhausting workouts that are no fun. Some even hurt themselves from over-doing it. Although going to the gym daily is a great goal, it can sometimes be unachievable with your schedule. Many have an “all or nothing” mentality. Besides, going to the gym can be time-consuming, expensive and inconvenient (especially in the new year when it’s over-crowded).
You do not need to head to the gym to move more. Simple practice yoga at home (I have lots of free segments on my Youtube Channel and you can join me for Facebook Live yoga on my Flexible Warrior page), go for a run or a walk on your lunch break, or do some pushups, core exericses and squats at home. My goal is always 10 minutes a day. It’s the consistency that’s the key (along with a healthy diet). Make moving fun in 2017. You will feel so much better!
#4. LET GO OF NEGATIVE SELF-TALK
Every person has thoughts that creep into their head. Sometimes we can become more judgmental and critical of others in our head, or even put ourselves down. In 2017 make it a goal of yours to stop the negative thinking. This will help you to be an overall happier person and will even help you to become healthier overall. Don’t say things to yourself that you wouldn’t say to your most beloved friend. In fact, BE your own best friend! Try creating a positive affirmation or join me and choose ONE WORD (again, we’ll go over how to chose a word on my New Years Day YOGA 🙂
#5. ADD IN MORE SELF-CARE
Most people I know are seriously stressed. They are over-worked, raising kids and super busy. It’s hard to find time to exercise, much less practice self-care. But, a little bit of self-care can make a world of difference. A hot bath, a dab of essential oils and a few deep breaths, a hot tea with a good book, meditation or 20 minutes of yoga… these are all free or pretty inexpensive and don’t have to take much time. Or, indulge in a massage, a facial or a full spa day if you can! The time and money you invest in your self-care will pay you back in a huge way. And, I believe self-care is the opposite of selfish, since we can not give from an empty cup. We have so much positive energy to share when we take good care of our minds, bodies and spirits.
So, take a few minutes to write own a few easy, enjoyable things you can do to be happier and healthier in 2017!
XO & Happy New Year!
