Hi Warriors!
Have you ever seen the movie Tuesdays with Morrie? Well, my Mondays with T-Sizzle are completely and totally different, yet somehow similar in the way that I leave feeling inspired and uplifted. He just has that kind of contagious energy (plus he has really good taste in movies, which always stir the emotions and make you think about what’s really important in life).
I get to see Terrell Suggs most Monday mornings to help him recover after he plays his heart out on Sundays. Whether the Ravens win or lose, Terrell is focused on what’s next. But for his day off, he’s all about recovery.
We all know T-Sizzle has the WILLPOWER factor. But what about CHILLPOWER?
Since it was his day off, I didn’t want to take time away from his session, so I tried to keep this interview to 60 seconds (went a little over with the bonus question, but couldn’t help myself 🙂 ) I thought you’d all enjoy hearing his recovery wisdom straight from T-Sizzle…
Bottom line is, remember to keep it simple: hydrate, rest, stretch and do things to chill, relax and recover.
Whether you’re a professional athlete, a weekend warrior or a stay-at-home mom… We all need the balance between willpower and chillpower… Do Hard Things (Terrell would call that “Ball So Hard”) and Do Easy Things (chill).
There are endless ways to support your recovery like acupunture, hot tub, cold tub, massage, cupping, reiki, physical therapy, dry needling, sauna, cryotherapy, hyperbaric chamber, biomat, supplements, infrared sauna… the list goes on and on. But without the basics of hydration, rest (and nutrition), none of the other techniques can be as effective.
Terrell is spot on… our bodies are 90% water, so hydration is key for peak performance. Quality rest is critical, but many Type A warriors (or busy executives and stressed out mom’s) are tempted to skip rest, stretching and recovery (which can only increase chances of over-use injury, stress-related illness and depleted energy).
The chillpower factor is so essential because when we practice self-care and do things that recharge and restore us mentally and physically, we create a more balanced and resilient mind, body and spirit.
It’s all about the BALANCE of opposites…
As Thanksgiving approaches, I am extra grateful to have the opportunity to work with amazing athletes like Terrell Suggs as well as first time marathon runners training for a dream to stay-at-home mom’s working on being the healthiest version of themselves for their kids. And I’m super grateful for my Mondays with T-Sizzle!
P.S. You can get a free chapter of my book Find Your Flexible Warrior: Think, Stretch & Eat for Balance & Resilience by signing up for my Enews HERE (btw, the chapter you’ll get is about willpower chillpower and yes, there’s a nice quote from Terrell in the book 🙂 )
P.S.S. My #probowlvote is for #terrellsuggs because he came back with a vengence this year, got in ridiculous shape, plays with passion, and goes above and beyond to practice self-care like a Flexible Warrior … I admire that!
Thanks for reading and sharing! Happy Thanksgiving!!!
XO & Namaste
