Last week I got to visit and reunite with a friend I met on my India adventure, almost 8 years ago! We did sun and moon salutations on the beach and talked endlessly about the challenges and joys of stepping outside of our comfort zones to leave our families and travel to India to study yoga.
We both agree that trip was the definition of learning to “be comfortable being uncomfortable.” I’m sure you can relate to and remember a challenging time in your life where you did something scary or overcame a difficult situation. Whether it’s giving birth to a child, running your first marathon, skydiving or publishing a book… Years later when you look back, you have no regrets, despite the fact that it pushed you way beyond your comfort zone.

As my friend and I reflected on our adventure, I realized that warrior spirit that took me across the globe is the same energy that inspired me to film yoga for athletes DVDs way before it was cool and to publish my first book way before I felt ready.
It’s also the same warrior spirit that continues to get me back up when I’m knocked down by fatigue or pain that continues to flare up from autoimmune thyroid disease and post Lyme syndrome. Although there were plenty of times I wanted to feel sorry for myself and be the victim, I also realize that the challenges we face in life are our greatest teachers, and that the education I gained in healing from my own illness and pain has given me endless opportunities to help others who are sick and in pain.
I honestly feel more like a wimp than a warrior. Due to my commitment to my own self-care and wellness, I am one of the healthiest sick people I know 🙂 And I’m here to tell you WE ARE ALL WARRIORS, whether we realize it or not.
For me, anti-inflammatory super foods diet, self-care and of course yoga has made a world of difference in my health and well-being. And that’s exactly why I wrote my book!
